SUMMARY
Under general supervision performs a variety of laboring activities to support the Sonoma Research Winery during harvest (e.g. sanitation, juice and wine processing).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participates in the operation of the Sonoma research winery during harvest
Assists in grape grading, tasting, inventory control, cellar work and sampling.
Participates in many aspects of winemaking from grapes through wine.
Cleans and sanitizes interior and exterior of tanks and hoses using caustic, liquid chlorine dioxide, water hoses, brooms, brushes and shovels.
Supports routine logging into LIMS and labeling routine fermentation samples.
Mixes chemical treatments or fining agents.
Builds hose line ups utilizing pumps for product transfer, tank cleaning, or treatments.
Samples juice, fermenting, and wine tanks.
Runs and monitors pump-over and punch-downs.
Sets-up trials and participates in tastings.
Supports the development of winemaking work-orders.
Supports data tracking, sampling and data interpretation.
Reviews wine analysis, tank top inspection; communicates out-of-specification wines to research winemaker.
Participates in the management of winery workflow processes using internal company software system.
Records and documents data.
Manages shared complex spreadsheets.
Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
Bachelor's degree in Winemaking, Food Science, Chemistry, Enology, Viticulture or Fermentation Science OR 4 years of enology, winemaking, analytical laboratory technician, or viticulture experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Required to engage in wine tasting; must be 21 years of age or older.
Required to lift and move product and equipment weighing up to 45 lbs.
Skilled in writing simple correspondence.
Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.
Required to work day, swing or graveyard shifts when scheduled.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior winemaking and tasting experience.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Skilled in both verbal and written communication.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
Experience reading, analyzing and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Experience writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
Skilled in working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry and algebra.
Skilled in applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Experience solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Work under different climatic conditions.
Experience following established procedures to performing tasks that are routine in nature, requiring some evaluation, originality or ingenuity.
Skilled in the fundamentals of wine chemistry, wine microbiology and viticulture practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Inside/Outside conditions: During crush, work estimated at 80% (but not limited to) outside, with weather of varying types.
Required to lift and move up to 45 lbs.
Wet/dangerous conditions vary and may include work in rain.
Applicant is required to climb fixed stairs with handrails and vertical ladders with hoop cages to a height of 50 feet.
Noise levels may vary. May be in situations where ear protection should be used.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
